Head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Karim Zito, is full of anticipation as his side gears up to battle Bibiani GoldStars in the Super Cup final this weekend. The clash promises fireworks and is being billed as the perfect curtain-raiser for an exciting Ghanaian football season.

Beyond the silverware at stake, the final carries extra significance due to the recent history between the two clubs. GoldStars defeated Kotoko in the GHALCA Top Four tournament, a result that still lingers in the minds of Zito and his players. Saturday’s showdown, therefore, is about more than just a trophy, it is a fight for pride, revenge, and momentum heading into continental competition.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Zito acknowledged the sting of the earlier defeat but expressed confidence that his team will respond decisively on the pitch.

“It will be a very difficult match. They beat us during the GHALCA Top Four tournament. So it will be a revenge. Revenge not on physical issues, revenge on the field, we also want to beat them to make it equal,” he said.

The veteran coach, who led Kotoko to last season’s MTN FA Cup triumph, views the Super Cup as an important rehearsal for bigger challenges. With Kotoko preparing for the CAF Confederation Cup and GoldStars set to compete in the CAF Champions League, the final is expected to provide a stern test for both sides.

“I’m very, very happy with this game because it will be in preparation for the Confederation Cup and also their Champions League. So it will be a nice game. All the necessary elements that will make the game very beautiful will be applied,” Zito added.

For Kotoko, victory would not only mean lifting the Super Cup but also sending a strong message to domestic rivals and continental opponents that they remain a powerhouse in Ghanaian football. For GoldStars, another win over Kotoko would cement their growing reputation as one of the nation’s rising forces.

With pride, bragging rights, and momentum all on the line, fans can expect nothing short of a thrilling Super Cup final.
