Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of Colombian international Jhon Arias from Brazilian club Fluminense for an initial £15 million, with a potential £4 million in add-ons based on performance targets, including European qualification.
The 27-year-old winger has signed a four-year contract at Molineux, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by an additional year. Arias will wear the number 10 shirt, previously worn by Matheus Cunha, who recently joined Manchester United in a £62.5 million transfer.
Arias is known for his versatility, capable of operating effectively on both flanks. However, he is not seen as a direct replacement for Cunha, but rather a key addition to bolster Wolves’ attacking options.
He arrives with an impressive résumé, having earned 31 caps for Colombia, and was a standout performer at the 2023 Copa Libertadores, helping Fluminense lift the prestigious trophy. He also featured at the Club World Cup this summer, where Fluminense reached the semi-finals before being eliminated by Chelsea.
At club level, Arias made 229 appearances for Fluminense, becoming a key figure during his time in Brazil. At Wolves, he reunites with former teammate André, who also played at Fluminense, and joins Colombian compatriot Yerson Mosquera.
Arias becomes manager Vítor Pereira’s second summer signing, following the arrival of midfielder Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo, as Wolves continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
