Everton are on the verge of securing their marquee signing of the summer, with Villarreal striker Thierno Barry set to undergo a medical on Merseyside ahead of a £27 million transfer.

The deal, while not yet finalised, is said to be progressing smoothly, with Everton manager David Moyes keen to wrap up the signing quickly. The 22-year-old forward is expected to arrive in the coming days to complete medical formalities before officially joining the Toffees.

Barry had a £34.5 million release clause in his Villarreal contract, but Everton are close to securing the player for a reduced fee. The promising striker caught attention last season with a strong campaign in La Liga, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in 38 appearances as Villarreal secured a fifth-place finish and Champions League qualification.

His arrival will significantly boost Everton’s attacking options following the departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who left the club after his contract expired. Armando Broja has also returned to Chelsea after his loan stint at Goodison Park, with no agreement reached for a permanent move.

Born in Lyon, Barry began his professional journey with French club Sochaux before making a bold move to Belgian second division side Beveren at the age of 19. He continued his development in the Swiss Super League with FC Basel before earning a transfer to Villarreal in August 2024 for around £13 million.

Now poised to take the next step in his career, Barry is expected to play a central role in Moyes’ plans as Everton aim to climb the Premier League table and re-establish themselves as a force in English football.
