Supporters Will Travel to the World Cup, but Funding Remains Crucial – Kofi Adams

Former Ghana Football Association Executive Council member and sports administrator Kofi Adams has expressed confidence that Ghanaian supporters will travel to support the national team at the FIFA World Cup, stressing however that adequate funding will be a decisive factor.

Speaking on the prospects of fan participation at the tournament, Adams noted that Ghanaians have a strong history of following the Black Stars to major international competitions, driven by passion and national pride. However, he cautioned that financial constraints could limit the number of supporters able to make the journey.

“Ghanaian supporters will definitely go to the World Cup to support the team, but funding is key,” Adams said. “Travel, accommodation, match tickets and other logistics are expensive, and without proper financial backing, many willing supporters may not be able to attend.”

He emphasised the importance of early planning and collaboration between government, corporate sponsors, supporters’ unions and football authorities to ensure that fans are adequately supported. According to him, organised funding structures and sponsorship packages could make a significant difference.

Adams also highlighted the role supporters play in motivating players, noting that the presence of Ghanaian fans at international tournaments often creates a home-away-from-home atmosphere for the Black Stars.

“Supporters are an integral part of football success. Their presence boosts morale and gives players extra motivation, especially on the global stage,” he added.

With preparations towards the World Cup gaining momentum, Adams urged stakeholders to treat fan mobilisation as a key component of tournament planning, alongside team preparations and technical readiness.

His comments have reignited discussions around supporter funding and logistics as Ghana looks ahead to making a strong impact at the World Cup, both on and off the pitch.
