Marcus Rashford is set to return to Manchester United for the start of pre-season training on Monday, despite lingering uncertainty over his long-term future at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa after falling out of favour with United manager Ruben Amorim. The fallout came after a breakdown in their working relationship, with Amorim publicly stating in February: “I couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it.”
Rashford’s time at Villa offered a fresh start, where he made 17 appearances, scoring four goals and providing six assists. However, speculation about a permanent move away from Manchester persists. United have reportedly placed a £40 million valuation on the England international, though no formal bids have been submitted so far.
Back in April, sources close to Rashford indicated he was unlikely to play under Amorim again. Yet, more recently, those same sources have said he has no issue with returning to Carrington for the beginning of pre-season.
United kick off their summer campaign with a friendly against Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19, before traveling to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series.
Rashford, who has spent two decades at Manchester United since joining the academy as a child, has made 426 senior appearances for the club, scoring 138 goals. Despite recent tensions, he remains a key figure in the squad and a symbol of the club’s homegrown legacy.
In a separate interview last month, Rashford hinted at interest in a move abroad, expressing a desire to one day play alongside Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal. However, for now, his focus appears to be on returning to his boyhood club as preparations begin for the 2025/26 season.
Whether Rashford and Amorim can mend their fractured relationship remains to be seen, but for now, his return signals a willingness to keep options open.
