Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are among five Manchester United players who have informed the club of their desire to leave this summer. Also eyeing moves away are Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia. In response, United have delayed their return to pre-season training, granting the group additional time to explore their futures.
All five players will be allowed to return to Carrington later this month if their situations remain unresolved. The club has assured them access to training and medical support during this period.
Rashford, 27, was exiled by new manager Ruben Amorim in December and spent the latter half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he contributed four goals and six assists in 17 appearances. Though initially open to returning for pre-season, he is now pushing for a move. Amorim previously expressed frustration with Rashford, stating he “couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it.”
Garnacho, 21, was also sidelined under Amorim and omitted from the squad for United’s final league game. The Argentine has been given permission to seek a new club this summer.
Sancho returned from a season-long loan at Chelsea, where the Blues opted not to activate a permanent deal, reportedly paying a £5 million penalty to avoid doing so. Antony spent last season at Real Betis, while Malacia featured for PSV Eindhoven in the second half of the campaign.
In preparation for the new season, United face Leeds in their first pre-season friendly on 19 July in Stockholm before heading to the U.S. for the Premier League Summer Series.
Cunha given Rashford’s number 10 shirt

Meanwhile, United have handed the iconic number 10 shirt—previously worn by Rashford since 2018—to Brazil forward Matheus Cunha. The 25-year-old completed a £62.5 million transfer from Wolves last month and signed a five-year contract, with an option for an extra year. Rashford was informed of the decision in advance. The club currently values him at £40 million but has yet to receive any formal offers.
Last month, Rashford hinted at a desire to play alongside rising star Lamine Yamal at Barcelona, adding to speculation about a potential move abroad.
Rashford, who has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances over two decades with the club, now stands at a crossroads as he seeks a fresh start away from Old Trafford.
