Old Firm Rivals Eye Serbia Youth Star Bacanin

Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers have expressed interest in signing highly rated Serbia youth international Andrej Bacanin, according to Cukaricki sporting director Vladimir Matijasevic.

The 18-year-old defensive midfielder is attracting widespread attention across Europe following an impressive season for both his club and the Serbian national youth team. Matijasevic confirmed that Cukaricki has received calls from several top clubs, including Ajax, Udinese, and the two Old Firm rivals, with more potential suitors expected to emerge in the coming days.

“There is a lot of interest in our young players, and the current focus is on the transfer of Andrej Bacanin,” Matijasevic said on the club’s official website. “He attracted the attention of numerous clubs with his performances for our team last season, as well as for the Serbian national team at his age group.”

Cukaricki “expects the transfer to be completed in the next 10 days,” Matijasevic added, calling it “another big exit transfer” for the Belgrade-based club, one that would help cover their annual budget.

Bacanin, along with 19-year-old centre-back Vojin Serafimovic, was left out of the squad for Cukaricki’s 1–0 SuperLiga season-opening win over Napredak, with both players reportedly close to finalising moves away from the club.

Bacanin made 11 starts and eight substitute appearances in the Serbian top flight last season, as well as 10 appearances for Serbia’s U19 national side, establishing himself as one of the country’s brightest young talents.

Cukaricki, who finished ninth out of 16 teams in last season’s Serbian SuperLiga, have earned a reputation for developing and exporting young players, and Bacanin appears to be the next in line.
