Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Sweden international Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest in a £55 million transfer, strengthening Eddie Howe’s attacking ranks ahead of the club’s return to Champions League football.
The 23-year-old winger, who played a pivotal role in Nottingham Forest’s impressive 2024–25 Premier League campaign, has signed with the Magpies as they look to build on their fifth-place league finish and domestic cup success last season.
Elanga impressed at the City Ground with six goals and 11 assists under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, becoming one of the standout performers in the league.
Speaking on the club’s official website, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe welcomed the arrival of the dynamic attacker:
“I’m delighted to welcome Anthony to Newcastle United. He has been a key target for us, so I’m thrilled we’ve secured him early in pre-season.
He’s an exciting talent whose pace, energy, and ability to both create and score goals make him a unique attacking threat. His qualities will strengthen us and complement the way we want to play.”
Elanga, equally enthusiastic about the move, said he’s eager to make an immediate impact at St. James’ Park:
“I’m ready to put on this black and white top, to fight for this team and give everything for a passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football.
I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest. They really helped me become the player I am today, and I’ll always be grateful. But I’m really happy to be here now.
The club won a trophy last season and is building something special, something I want to be part of. I’m buying into the culture and DNA of this club. I can’t wait to get started.”
Elanga joined Forest from Manchester United in 2023 for a fee reported to be around £15 million. He had been with United since the age of 12, making 55 senior appearances before his move to the City Ground.
While Forest were keen to keep the winger and Elanga did not push for a transfer, Newcastle’s substantial offer proved too attractive for the Midlands club to turn down.
Elanga becomes Newcastle’s latest marquee signing as the club looks to build on recent momentum, both domestically and in Europe.
