Millwall have completed the permanent signing of 21-year-old left-back Zak Sturge from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.
Sturge, who spent the second half of last season on loan at The Den, has signed a long-term deal with the Championship side. He becomes the Lions’ third signing of the summer transfer window, following goalkeeper Max Crocombe’s arrival from Burton Albion and a club-record move for striker Josh Coburn from Middlesbrough.
The young defender made five appearances under manager Alex Neil during his loan spell, having debuted in a 1-0 victory away at Derby County in February. He featured in Millwall’s final three matches of the season, impressing with his attacking flair and defensive discipline.
Millwall’s director of football, Steve Gallen, expressed his delight at securing the promising full-back on a permanent basis.
“We’re so pleased to bring Zak in permanently,” Gallen told the club’s official website. “He came in on loan in January and, while we already knew how good a player he was, Joe Bryan was in outstanding form at the time, so Zak didn’t get many minutes initially.”
“But when he did get his chance, he was excellent. Everyone knows what Zak brings, he’s got a great left foot, loves to get forward, and is strong in one-v-one defensive situations. We’re really excited about what he can offer this season and beyond.”
The acquisition of Sturge adds further depth and youth to Millwall’s backline as they prepare for the 2025/26 Championship campaign. The Lions will kick off their season away to Norwich City on Saturday, 9 August.
