Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has sustained a hamstring injury and is now a major doubt for the upcoming El Clásico clash against Real Madrid later this month.
The 37-year-old Polish international, who found the net in Poland’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Lithuania on Sunday, has been ruled out of Barcelona’s La Liga fixture against Girona this weekend. The injury also casts doubt over his availability for the Champions League match against Olympiakos next Tuesday and the highly anticipated El Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu on 26 October.
In an official club statement, Barcelona confirmed:
“Robert Lewandowski has suffered a hamstring injury in his left thigh. He will be sidelined, and his recovery time will depend on how the injury progresses.”
While the club did not specify a timeline for his return, Spanish media reports suggest that the striker could be out for approximately four weeks, potentially ruling him out of several key fixtures.
Lewandowski, who has scored four goals in nine appearances for the defending La Liga champions this season, adds to Barcelona’s growing injury list, which already includes Raphinha, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Marc-André ter Stegen, and Joan Garcia.
On a positive note, Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez have both returned to training, offering manager Xavi Hernández some attacking reinforcements as the team navigates a crucial stretch of the season.
