Asante Kotoko have officially named Karim Zito as the club’s new head coach, securing his services on a two-year contract. The appointment was confirmed by the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Akwasi Appiah, during the relaunch of the Fabu Census campaign held at the Kumasi City Mall on Sunday, July 20, 2025.

Zito, who was initially brought in as the club’s Technical Director, stepped in on an interim basis during a critical period and quickly made a lasting impression. His successful spell—highlighted by an FA Cup triumph and a third-place finish in the Ghana Premier League, has now earned him the top job on a full-time basis.

Why Karim Zito?

Explaining the rationale behind the appointment, IMC Chairman Nana Akwasi Appiah said:

“Coach Zito helped us win the FA Cup and led the team to a third-place finish in the league. His strong connection with the players and overall performance made this an easy decision.”

Zito’s First Words: A Call for Unity and Fan Support

In his first official remarks following the appointment, Coach Zito expressed both humility and ambition:

“I am grateful for this opportunity and I promise to give my all to bring joy to our supporters,” he stated. “I appeal to our fans to show up in large numbers. Your support motivates us to fight harder for the badge.”

He emphasized unity as the key to success, especially with continental football on the horizon:

“Kotoko’s past continental glory was built on unity. When we are united, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.”

A Coach with Proven Pedigree

Karim Zito brings decades of coaching experience to the Porcupine Warriors. He recently led Dreams FC to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, earning praise for his tactical discipline and player development skills. A former Asante Kotoko player himself, Zito understands the club’s culture, expectations, and fanbase better than most.

In addition to his club experience, Zito has held various roles with Ghana’s national youth teams, where he gained a reputation for identifying and nurturing young talent.

His appointment is widely regarded as a strategic move toward restoring Kotoko’s dominance in local football and regaining relevance on the African stage.
