Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Ashley Young, the former England, Aston Villa, and Manchester United full-back, on a one-year contract ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season.
Young, who turned 40 earlier this month, was a free agent following his release from Everton at the end of last season. Despite his age, the vastly experienced defender remains eager to compete at a high level.
A seasoned professional, Young has enjoyed an illustrious career spanning over two decades. He made his senior debut for Watford in 2003 and has since racked up 750 club appearances, winning major domestic honours and earning 39 caps for England along the way.
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna praised the acquisition, citing Young’s enduring quality and leadership:
“Ashley has had a fantastic career and his achievements speak for themselves. He has maintained an extremely high level of professionalism and competitiveness throughout his career and is still playing at a very good level.
We feel his leadership and experience will be valuable to the group this season, and he is very hungry to contribute both on and off the pitch.”
The signing adds depth and experience to Ipswich’s squad as they prepare for their return to the Championship, with their opening fixture set away to Birmingham City on Friday, 8 August.
