Swiss side FC Zurich has confirmed the departure of Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
The 24-year-old striker joined FC Zurich in January 2023 from Accra Hearts of Oak on a three-and-a-half-year deal. Despite showing early promise, Barnieh found it challenging to secure a consistent place in the club’s starting lineup.
During his stint with the Zurich-based outfit, he made 50 competitive appearances, scoring two goals and providing four assists. While his technical ability and commitment were evident, regular game time proved elusive.
“FC Zurich announces that Ghanaian striker Daniel Afriyie is leaving the city-based club,” a statement from the club read. “His contract has been terminated by mutual consent. FC Zurich thanks Daniel Afriyie for his commitment and wishes him all the best for the future.”
Now a free agent, Barnieh is expected to explore new opportunities ahead of the upcoming season, with potential suitors likely to monitor his availability closely.
