Coventry City have strengthened their goalkeeping department ahead of the new Championship campaign with the season-long loan signing of Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 24-year-old joins the Sky Blues at a crucial time, with first-choice goalkeeper Oliver Dovin still sidelined due to a knee injury suffered in March. Dovin’s recovery is expected to take several more months, and Rushworth’s arrival adds depth and quality to the squad as he competes with Ben Wilson and Brad Collins for the starting role.
Rushworth began his career with spells at Huddersfield Town and Halifax Town before signing with Brighton in the summer of 2020. He has since gained valuable senior experience through loan stints at Walsall, Lincoln City, Swansea City, and a brief period with Hull City in the first half of last season.
Sky Blues manager Frank Lampard welcomed Rushworth as his third addition of the summer transfer window, following the permanent signings of Spanish full-back Miguel Ángel Brau and versatile defender Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Aston Villa.
Rushworth’s arrival is seen as a vital move to solidify Coventry’s last line of defense as they aim to build a competitive squad for the upcoming season. With his blend of youth and experience, the Brighton loanee is expected to push hard for a starting role and provide valuable cover during Dovin’s continued absence.
