Chelsea have officially completed the signing of English winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £48.5 million, with an additional £3.5 million in potential add-ons.
The 20-year-old England Under-21 international has agreed to a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, joining a growing list of young talents brought in during Chelsea’s active summer transfer window. Bynoe-Gittens arrived at Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020 and went on to make 107 appearances for the Bundesliga side, registering 17 goals and 14 assists.
“It feels great to join such a big club as Chelsea,” Bynoe-Gittens said. “It’s an amazing feeling to move to Stamford Bridge.”
Although the move has been finalized, the winger will not feature for the Blues until after the FIFA Club World Cup later this year.
Borussia Dortmund confirmed the agreement on Thursday. Their sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, admitted that negotiations with Chelsea were “challenging” but expressed satisfaction with the final outcome.
“Jamie is an outstanding player who has given us a great deal of pleasure,” Kehl said. “He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the best and much success.”
Bynoe-Gittens becomes Chelsea’s fifth summer signing, following the arrivals of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, Brighton forward Joao Pedro, Sporting CP midfielder Dario Essugo, and Strasbourg defender Mamadou Sarr.
