Adenta Kumi Arrest Should Not Be Turned Into a Political Football – Kwame Jantuah

Private legal practitioner and social commentator Kwame Jantuah has expressed concern over the arrest of Adenta Kumi, cautioning against allowing the matter to be politicised and used for partisan advantage.

Speaking on the development, Jantuah stressed that while the law must be allowed to take its full course, the case should be handled with fairness, transparency, and restraint, without being dragged into political contestation.

“I sincerely hope this issue does not become a political football,” Jantuah said. “If there are allegations against Adenta Kumi, then the appropriate legal processes must be followed. But it should not be turned into a tool for political point-scoring.”

He emphasized that the justice system must be respected and allowed to operate independently, free from external pressure or political influence. According to him, public commentary on such cases should be measured to avoid prejudicing investigations or court proceedings.

Jantuah further noted that the increasing tendency to politicise arrests and investigations undermines public confidence in state institutions and risks deepening political polarization in the country.

“When issues like this are immediately framed along political lines, it creates unnecessary tension and distracts from the real issue, which is whether the law has been breached or not,” he explained.

He called on political actors, opinion leaders, and the media to exercise responsibility in their handling of the matter, urging them to focus on facts rather than speculation.

Kwame Jantuah also reminded the public that every individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law, stressing the need to uphold constitutional principles.

“This is about the rule of law,” he added. “We must allow the legal process to run its course and avoid rushing to conclusions.”

The arrest of Adenta Kumi has generated widespread public discussion, with varying reactions across political and social circles. Jantuah’s comments add to calls for calm and due process as authorities continue their work on the case.
