Barcelona have confirmed the departure of 19-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah following the conclusion of his loan from Dreams FC.
Issah joined Barça Atlètic, the club’s B team, in September 2024 with high expectations, having been regarded as one of Ghana’s brightest young prospects. However, his time in Catalonia proved challenging, as he struggled to break into the team and made just two appearances, totaling only 26 minutes of play.
Despite showing early promise and even earning a chance to train with the first team under manager Hansi-Dieter Flick, Issah was consistently left out of matchday squads. His limited involvement raised concerns about his adaptation and development at the club.
Barcelona ultimately decided against activating the purchase option included in his loan agreement, and Issah will now return to Dreams FC. He departs alongside six other players whose contracts have also expired.
Issah’s brief stint may not have lived up to expectations, but his exposure to European football, particularly the experience gained training under Flick, could prove valuable in the long run. His standout performance for Ghana at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations reignited interest in his potential, and at just 19 years old, he remains a highly regarded talent who could attract interest from other European clubs.
Meanwhile, another Ghanaian player, David Oduru, appears set to remain with Barcelona as the club looks to strengthen its left-back options, offering hope for continued Ghanaian presence at the Catalan side.
