The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the winner of the 2025 Democracy Cup will earn the opportunity to participate in a prestigious three-team tournament in the United States in May 2026.

This exciting development was disclosed during the official launch of the second edition of the Democracy Cup, held at the Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium within Parliament House on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

The launch event was graced by Members of Parliament, officials from the Ghana Football Association, and other dignitaries. As part of the ceremony, Accra-based giants Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics were unveiled as the two clubs selected to battle for this year’s Democracy Cup title.

According to the GFA, the victor between Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics will go on to represent Ghana in a three-team international tournament scheduled to take place in the United States next year.

Initiated in 2024 by the Parliament of Ghana, the Democracy Cup is a unique sporting initiative designed to foster civic engagement, promote democratic values, and strengthen national unity through football.

The maiden edition of the tournament was held on July 17, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Kumasi Asante Kotoko defeated Hearts of Oak 2-1 to clinch the inaugural title.

With an international opportunity now attached to the prize, this year’s Democracy Cup promises even more excitement and significance, as Hearts and Olympics prepare to compete not just for local bragging rights, but for a place on the global stage.
