Manchester United Submit £70m Third Bid for Brentford Star Bryan Mbeumo

Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo with a third formal bid that could rise to £70 million. The latest offer includes an initial £65 million payment, with an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons.

Brentford are yet to respond to the new proposal, but United remain confident of securing a deal for the prolific Cameroon international before departing for their U.S. pre-season tour on Tuesday.

United manager Ruben Amorim has made Mbeumo a top transfer priority, ahead of recent links to Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The club hopes to integrate the 25-year-old forward into Amorim’s tactical plans during the team’s 13-day training camp in Chicago, where the bulk of their pre-season activities will be held.

Mbeumo enjoyed a standout 2024/25 Premier League campaign, netting 20 goals and attracting interest from several clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank. However, Mbeumo is believed to favor a move to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Brentford could be facing further attacking reshuffles, as striker Yoane Wissa is reportedly drawing interest from Newcastle United.

United’s urgency in securing Mbeumo is underscored by their attacking struggles last season. The Red Devils managed just 44 goals in the Premier League, their lowest tally in a domestic campaign since their relegation in the 1973–74 season. Manager Amorim has frequently highlighted the team’s inefficiency in front of goal as a major concern.

Should the Mbeumo deal go through, it may prompt a tactical shift. Club captain Bruno Fernandes could be deployed in a deeper midfield role, while new signing Matheus Cunha is expected to occupy one of Amorim’s preferred inside forward positions behind a central striker.

United have already bolstered their squad this summer with the additions of Cunha in attack and Diego Leon in defense. However, the likely arrival of Mbeumo may further distance several out-of-favor attackers, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Antony, from the first-team setup, all of whom currently remain in exile.

Manchester United will kick off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign at home against Arsenal on August 17.
