Manchester City winger and Belgium international Jeremy Baffour Doku is making the most of his offseason in Ghana, not only by spending time with family, but by laying the foundation for a long-term impact on the country of his heritage.
Doku was joined by his father, Mr. Davies Doku, and other relatives, as he formally introduced himself to the Ministry and pledged to support youth and charitable causes in Ghana.
“This visit is about gratitude,” Doku said.
“Ghanaians have supported me from afar since the beginning. I’m here to acknowledge that and to say I want to be present more often, not just physically, but through action.” he stated.
“You may not wear our jersey, but every time your name is mentioned, Ghana’s light shines brighter,” Hon. Adams said.
“You represent the discipline, excellence, and values we want our youth to embrace.”
Doku, who was born in Belgium to Ghanaian parents, emphasized his pride in his roots, revealing that he speaks fluent Twi and feels deeply connected to his homeland.
He has already made quiet charitable visits to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Achimota Hospital, according to Lady Dentaa, a key member of the visiting delegation.
“Jeremy wants to do more, especially in the areas of healthcare and sports development. There’s a lot to look forward to.”
The visit also sparked reflection from the Minister on Ghana’s youth development systems.
“When we see talent like yours succeed abroad, we’re reminded of how crucial it is to spot and nurture young athletes early,” he noted.
The meeting concluded with a warm exchange of souvenirs and an open invitation for Doku to participate in the Ministry’s upcoming youth football clinics.
As Jeremy Doku continues to rise on the global stage, his message at home is clear: he hasn’t forgotten where he comes from and he’s just getting started.
