Ghanaian forward Afriyie Barnieh has completed a move to Swiss Challenge League side FC Aarau following the termination of his contract with FC Zurich.
Barnieh initially joined Zurich in January 2023 from Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak, penning a three-and-a-half-year deal. During his time with the club, the 24-year-old made 50 competitive appearances, scoring two goals and providing four assists. Despite flashes of promise, he struggled to secure a consistent place in the starting lineup.
Now set for a fresh start at FC Aarau, Barnieh brings valuable experience from the Swiss top flight and the international stage with Ghana. His addition is seen as a major boost to Aarau’s attacking options, with the club aiming to secure promotion to the Swiss Super League.
At 28, Barnieh is expected to offer leadership and composure in the final third, qualities that will be vital in Aarau’s push for top-tier football next season.
