New Queens Park Rangers (QPR) signing Kwame Poku has opened up on his decision to join the Championship side despite receiving interest from several clubs following his departure from Peterborough United.

The Ghanaian winger had been a hot topic of transfer speculation over the past year, with numerous clubs reportedly tracking his progress. Among the most notable suitors was Scottish giants Rangers, whose Director of Football, Barry Fry, confirmed that Ibrox scouts had been monitoring the 23-year-old closely.

Southampton manager Russell Martin also came close to securing Poku’s signature for a move to the Scottish Premiership. However, the talented attacker ultimately opted to stay in England and take a step up from League One to the Championship with QPR.

Speaking to QPR’s official media team, Poku explained his motivation behind the move and his excitement about what lies ahead at Loftus Road.

“I feel like the project of what they’re building here excites me, and I want to be part of taking QPR to that next level,” he said.

Beyond contributing to the team’s collective ambition, Poku is also focused on his own development and performance metrics.

“For me, I just want to get as many numbers personally, individually as possible, and help the team improve from where we were last season. I think that’s the main thing—just keep improving.”

Poku’s return to the Championship marks a significant moment in his career. Having first featured in the division during the 2019/20 season, he now comes back with more experience and a sharpened skill set after his time with Peterborough.

Confident and determined, the Ghana international is eager to make an impact at QPR as the club looks to rise in the ranks of English football.
