Ghanaian boxer – Samed Shakur could face between 2 to 4yr ban having violated anti-doping rules for the 2022 Commonwealth Games taking place in the West Midlands – Birmingham.
According to the Medical Commission [Birmingham 2022], the sample A of Samed, who competed for Ghana in the men’s light heavyweight division at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo was found to contain a prohibited substance [diuretic and masking agent – Furosemide].
The Ghanaian boxer was set to face Jean Luc Rosalba in the men’s 75-80kg, but could not appear at the weigh-in due to his failure to pass the anti- doping test.
As a result, the Mauritius boxer had a walkover.
Samed has been suspended and have been given the opportunity to provide further information, including requesting analysis of his B sample, before any charge is issued.
If the boxer and the Ghana Olympic Committee fail to provide the appropriate information, Shakul could be banned for two or four years.
