“I Dreamed of My Son Becoming a Footballer” – Yaw Darling’s Father Opens Up

The father of Ghanaian football talent Yaw Darling has revealed that his lifelong dream was to see his son grow into a professional footballer, a vision that has steadily taken shape through years of sacrifice, guidance, and unwavering support.

Speaking in an emotional interview, he reflected on Yaw Darling’s early years, recalling how his passion for football became evident at a very young age. According to him, the journey was never accidental but carefully nurtured through discipline, encouragement, and a strong belief in his son’s abilities.

“From the moment he started kicking a ball around the house, I knew football was his calling,” he said. “I always wanted my son to become a footballer, and I did everything within my means to support that dream.”

He explained that despite financial and social challenges, he remained committed to providing the best possible environment for his son to thrive. This included enrolling him in local colts teams, ensuring he balanced education with football, and instilling values of humility and hard work.

Yaw Darling’s rise, he noted, has been shaped not only by talent but also by resilience and discipline. There were moments of doubt and setbacks along the way, but his father believes those experiences helped build the character that now defines his son both on and off the pitch.

“I taught him to respect the game, respect his coaches, and always remember where he comes from,” he added. “Talent alone is not enough. Discipline and character are what keep you at the top.”

The proud father also used the opportunity to advise parents of young footballers to remain patient and supportive, stressing the importance of education alongside sports development.

“Not every child will succeed immediately, but with patience, guidance, and prayers, dreams can come true,” he said.

As Yaw Darling continues to make strides in his football career, his father remains grateful for how far his son has come and hopeful that the journey ahead will be even greater.

“This is just the beginning,” he concluded. “I thank God, and I believe the best is yet to come.”
