Physically challenged high jumper Ampiah Gilbert, a student of St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO), has earned the honour of representing Ghana at the 2025 Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco.

The competition, scheduled to take place from April 24 to 27, serves as a key qualification event for the Commonwealth Games and the Paralympic Games, offering athletes an important platform to gain international exposure and ranking points.

Gilbert, just 16 years old, recently completed his official classification in the T44 sports class, clearing the final requirement needed to compete at the international level. His rapid rise in para athletics has been underpinned by impressive performances that have seen him consistently raise the bar in the high jump event.

Among his standout achievements are a 1.60m clearance in Ekumfi Atwa in 2023, where he defeated able-bodied competitors, a 1.82m personal best recorded at St. Augustine’s College inter-house competition, and a recent 1.86m jump, highlighting his remarkable progression.

Born with a physical challenge, Gilbert’s journey has been one of resilience, determination, and quiet excellence. His performances have not only drawn attention within school athletics but have also positioned him as one of Ghana’s most promising young para-athletes.

Officials of the Para Athletics Association of Ghana have expressed confidence in Gilbert’s readiness, describing his selection as a reflection of the country’s growing investment in para sports and youth development.

As Ghana’s para-athletes continue their preparations toward Glasgow 2026, Gilbert’s participation in the Morocco meet represents both a personal milestone and a symbol of opportunity for young athletes living with disabilities across the country.

With the national flag on his chest and the world watching, Ampiah Gilbert heads to Morocco determined to compete, inspire, and announce his arrival on the global para athletics stage.
