Ghana has officially begun its journey toward the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games as the national Para Athletics team departs for Morocco to compete in the 2025 Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech.

Scheduled from April 24 to 27, the competition forms a crucial part of Ghana’s early preparation and qualification pathway toward major international events, including the Commonwealth Games and the Paralympic Games. The meet is expected to provide valuable ranking points, international exposure, and competitive experience for Ghana’s para-athletes.

The delegation features a mix of emerging talents and experienced campaigners, reflecting the Para Athletics Association of Ghana’s commitment to long-term athlete development and international competitiveness. Central to the team’s objectives is building momentum ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Games while assessing athlete readiness against world-class opposition.

Officials say the Morocco meet will also serve as a key evaluation platform, allowing coaches and technical staff to fine-tune performance strategies, improve classification standings, and identify areas for growth as the qualification window progresses.

The journey to Marrakech follows months of intensive training and nationwide talent identification efforts aimed at expanding Ghana’s para-athletics pool. These initiatives have already begun yielding results, with several athletes recording personal bests and gaining international classification in recent months.

Speaking ahead of the team’s departure, officials expressed confidence in the athletes’ preparation and emphasized the broader significance of the competition. Beyond medals, the focus remains on development, exposure, and building a competitive structure capable of sustaining success through Glasgow 2026 and beyond.

As Ghana takes its first competitive steps on the road to Glasgow, the Para Athletics team carries national expectations and a renewed sense of purpose, determined to make its mark on the international stage and elevate para sports within the country.
