UEFA has announced that this season’s Champions League final in Budapest will kick off at 6pm local time instead of the originally scheduled 9pm, aiming to “enhance the matchday experience” for fans.
The 2026 final is set to take place at the Puskás Aréna on Saturday, 30 May. According to Ronan Evain, executive director of Football Supporters Europe, which collaborated with UEFA on the decision, the earlier start will make day trips more manageable, reduce travel stress, and allow supporters to enjoy the occasion without worrying about late-night logistics.
Unlike the Europa League and Conference League finals, which are traditionally held midweek, the Champions League final has been a Saturday fixture since 2010. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin explained that while a 9pm kick-off suits midweek matches, an earlier start on a Saturday ensures the final concludes at a reasonable hour, even if extra time or penalties are required.
Paris Saint-Germain, who claimed their first European Cup last season with a 5-0 win over Inter Milan in Munich, will aim to defend their crown in what promises to be a fan-friendly and memorable occasion in Hungary.
